Literacy
The Grattan institute says a third of children cannot read at the level expected of them. An important part of this program is to intervene early and prevent those struggling with literacy from falling further behind. To achieve this, we fund small group learning via MacqLit programs.
MacqLit is a reading intervention program for small groups of low-progress readers, developed through science-based research at Macquarie University.
At Daylesford Primary School, this program is run 1:1 with struggling readers with good success over previous years, enabling teachers to assist students struggling with reading to improve rapidly.
So far, The Daylesford Foundation has invested $18,000 into the literacy-based program.
Schools
The Daylesford Foundation is committed to ensuring children in the Hepburn Shire are helped to achieve their full potential in education, work, sport and community engagement – regardless of their background.
Its original intent was to help with transitioning from pre-school to primary school, primary to secondary and secondary to work or tertiary, excursions and swimming activities and clubs and social engagement.
The Daylesford Foundation has invested $43,000 per year in support of the schools-based program and will continue to grow the program in the future.
Scholarships
The Daylesford Foundation believes students need and deserve an education beyond secondary school. With the aim to positively impact the lives of local students by awarding scholarships for the term of their education journey. This program is specifically available for students living in the Hepburn region to help them navigate entry into universities or TAFE.
So far, the Foundation has awarded 17 scholarships to local young people. Scholarships are available to all students living in Hepburn Shire even if they are attending schools outside of the district.
The Daylesford Foundation has invested $118,000 in support of the scholarships-based program and will continue to grow it in the future.
